About Us

Nottage Furniture draws its history from South Australian manufacturing tradition. Following the war in 1948, Furniture Makers George Norman, Jack Turner & Ray Nottage joined to form a business called "Norman, Turner & Nottage - makers of fine furniture". Founder Fredrick "Ray" Nottage handed the business over to his son Malcom Nottage in 1975, and he continued making furniture through until 1992.

Well known for its Mahogany period style furniture, the business expanded into Canberra in 1972 and was involved in projects such as the luxurious Dining Room suite that currently presides in The Lodge (the residence of the Prime Minister of Australia); and the intricately carved Speakers chairs for Vanuatu and Gilbert Islands Parliaments.

More recently, Ben Nottage (Malcolm's son) has been experimenting with the combination of steel and premium hardwoods in the form of tables and other occasional furniture. Ben draws on the experience of his family's furniture making skills and his own metal fabrication knowledge to develop the premium, locally crafted designs you see here today.
